Cybereyes

by Aaron Wigley, Dennis Sketchley, The Wyrm Ouroboros

Here are a modification to the Cyberware given in the SRII, SSC, ST and SB sourcebooks.

Note: The cybereye electronic systems can be built into a standard electronic binocular system. For costs, halve the cost of an ## Basic Cybereye

This is the standard 20/20 cybereye package, without the neural interface, and as such, requires a Vision SPU. Up to 0.5 essence of extras listed below can be added for a package of 0.2 essence.

Essence Cost: 0.15

Rating Cost Notes
1 2,000 nY
2 4,000 nY
3 6,000 nY Trid Quality
4 10,000 nY Trid Quality

Availability: 2/24 hrs
Street Index: .75

Options:

  • Thermographic: +3,000 nY, +0.20 essence cost
  • Low-Light: +3,000 nY, +0.20 essence cost
  • Ultraviolet: +4,000 nY, +0.20 essence cost
  • Active Rangefinder: +2,000 nY, +0.10 essence cost (Laser rangefinder)
  • Ruthenium Coating: +1,000 nY, +0.10 essence cost
This allows the eyes to change colour, or even for the ‘shape’ of the pupil or iris to appear to alter. The essence cost does not contribute to a package deal, it is a separate cost for the controller chip. It is a free action to engage the system. There is space on the chip for 5 designs (each design is 1 Mp big, so there is 5 Mp of dedicated memory on the chip).

SPU(Vision)

When installed in the User’s senseware interface, the vision coprocessor acts upon raw data from a cybereye, and other input devices, and gives this information to the brain via neural interface. Like the SPU(Sound), it acts on programs given either in DataSofts or Headware memory. This also functions as a display link.

Input can also come from Headware memory, or datajack link.

The rating of the SPU limits the maximum number of programs that can run concurently on the chip. Up to 4 times rating worth of programs can operate concurently.

Level Essence Cost Price Features
1 .2 9,000 nY
2 .3 20,000 nY Works in conjunction with military systems (e.g. smartguns)

Camera Program

This program designed to run on a Vision SPU enables still shots to be taken and stored in headware memory, or downloaded via datajack. It takes one free action capture an image.

This program duplicates the image sent to the brain and sends the copy to a storage device (headware memory or out via datajack). This can also function as a camera program to obtain still shots only.

Flare Compensation Program

This program activly scans incoming image data for sudden contrasts in image intensity, and “smooths” the transition.

Low-Light Program

Effectivly image amplification, this program increases the contrast between pixels. Some degradation in performance is expected when used with standard bottom line cybereye units. This program is not needed when hardware low-light vision systems are provided.

Vision Magnification Program

Passive Rangefinder Program

This neat little program works by varying the vision in and out of focus, and providing depth information of the crisply focused image. It has its limitations though - it requires a simple action at which time all actions using vision are at +4 due to the varying focus, and it usually requires contrasting and sharp colour edges to work. It has the advantage of being passive in its measurements.

Rating: 4
Size: 8 Mp

Image Recognition Software (Expert System)

When coupled with an Image-Data database loaded into either headware memory, or slotted via chipjack, this software package will provide information about selected images via the display link in the Vision SPU. While it is processing the information, headware system load delay increases under the workload, to avoid this, the user is recomended to install Math and I/O SPU’s.

The system can be trained, as long as several images are available for analysis. It can recognise individuals also.

»»>[ I’m curious, is ‘Dead Stick’ from your love life, or your aeronautical prowess? Anyway, this has another use. Say you need to find someone in a crowd. You upload the face of who you are after and scan the sea of faces. While you are concentraiting on importaint matters, like keeping your backside in one piece, the SPU is busy doing your looking. If you find your target, a nice little crosshair appears on your sight. ]««<
