Star Wars: Episode XXVII - The Shadowrunning Menace

The hype is starting to hit hot and heavy about Star Wars: Episode I. May 1st, there is a huge convention in Denver which will be the first preview of things for the fans beyond the trailers. May 19th is D-Day, and though it will be hard to match the hype, I believe it will.

How do we translate this to a Shadowrun plot?

The runners are hired by a holovid production company, like Megamedia Inc out of Dunklezahn’s Secrets. The reason the runners are being hired is another holovid production company has a big, new release scheduled to come out in a couple of months. Already, critics, the lifeblood of the entertainment industry it seems sometimes, are already hyping up this movie. What the runners need to do is simple. Steal a copy of the holovid before it hits the market, so the company that is hiring them will be able to get a one-up on producing a better holovid in short order, to kill the sales of the first and become the talk of the town.

Potential opposition includes, of course, the security at the holovid production company. What could be problematic for the runners, however, is the fact the studio that is targetted is owned by one of the big megacorporations. Right at this point in time, when the run needs to occur, one of the division heads of that megacorporation is onsite to inspect the new movie in a private showing. This means all of HIS security is now also in the way, and that security isn’t light in the slightest.

During the run, another team of runners from yet another holovid company could also be attempting the same run, thus ending up with a three-way battle in the middle of a movie studio backlot. This could be a lot of fun, as runners are travelling in a ‘Beaverville’, then turn around the corner and be faced with the United States Capitol in front of them. Let alone, all the production equipment and toys which could be hidden behind or used during chases or gun battles. Who wouldn’t want to shoot the head off of a wax dummy of Tori Spelling? :)
