The Russian Republic remains one of the world’s major powers even after suffering two major military defeats in the last fifty years. Although Russia is considerably smaller than it was durring the last few ceturies. The loss in terratory is due to three major events, the first two are the two wars that Russia fought and the other significant event was of course the awakening, this caused the cultures that had long been dominated by the Russians to revolt. As a result the Russian republic extends eastward only as far as the Ural mountains.

The South East Asian War Zone

The region knownas the South East Asian War Zone is comprized of hundreds of small nations in a constant state of flux. There are so many nations and they are always changing, so it would be impossible to provide any acurate information other than a brief overview. The following contries are some of the more important and more stable nations.

Imperial Japan

Imperial Japan is perhaps one of the most powerfull nations on the planet, eccomicly that is. Japan is also one of a small list of nations that has not suffered a loss in terratory since the Awakening, in fact Japan has managed to expand it’s terratory signifigantly.

Japan is the leading force in the region policicaly, militarilly, and deffanatly ecconomicly. Theoreticly the nation of Japan is controlled by the Emperor, the Diet and the United Council. In fact the Emperor and the Diet have very little power, with the United Council and the corperations actually running things.

The Emperor of Japan is likely a very powerful shaman of the Shinto tradition following the Awakening; Sun Totem most likely (as a descendant of divine Amaterasu, goddess of the Sun). The royal line of Japan are considered to be kami (powerful spirits) in their own right, after all.

OK. Here is a rough outline of JIS history described in SHADOWRUN JAPANESE EDITION. -2000: Computer terrorism arose. Intrusion-counter technology was developed. 2004: Mysterious mass death, which is now speculated as a subspecies of VITAS, struck working population. Civil unrest spreaded. Denomination and nuyen. For survival, corporations amalgamated to form a few megacorps. 2006: Megacorps cooperated to launch the solar satellites. Fierce terrorism against megacorps. Corps set up their own security troops. 2011: The Year of Chaos. Fortunately, the victims of VITAS were no more than a few millions. However, changeling and Ryumyo caused considerable civil disorder. 2012: Major riots broke out everywhere, which were suppressed not by goverment police but by corporate security troops. Megacorps organized "United Council" to replace the Diet substantially. The struggle between Fuchi and Mitsuhama escalated. 2013: Rampage of a drek hot terrorist "Kido", a demonic magician who geeked 9 VIPs including 4 executives of Fuchi. United Council dispatched a special counter-terrorist team "GH". GH consisted of 15 members, and at last executed Kido at the sacrifice of 12 members’ lives. The true identity of Kido is not known till now. 2014: Gun control laws were loosened. Corporate security troops came paramilitary with heavy arms. 2016: Government army (Self Defense Force) was dissolved, which was absorbed into megacorps later. 2021: Goblinization and anti-metahuman riots. 2029: The Crash of ‘29. Advanced technology of Japanese corporations (mainly Fuchi) overcame the plague before Echo Mirage. Fuchi aided other countries to rebuild computer systems, assuring great influences over the new born matrix. 2030: Europe War. Many Japanese corporate troops joined the war. 2035: CFS divided from UCAS. Megacorps dispatched their troops to California. In Tokyo, Fuchi and Asakura electronics crushed into city fight. Fuchi geeked Tokyo itself as well as Asakura. After the war ended, the capital was moved from Tokyo to Kyoto. United Council declared that Tokyo was then the neutral zone free from all megacorps. Fuchi retreated from Tokyo to Hachioji. East Capital Police was founded for law enforcement in Tokyo. 2039: Night of Rage. All Metahumans in Tokyo were moved to concentration zones for the purpose of "protection". 2045: Metahuman concentration zones were dissolved. 2050: Now. Japanese government has no power. All military forces belong to the megacorps.
